The Aztec Empire, centered on the magnificent island city of Tenochtitlan, flourished from the 14th to the 16th centuries, becoming a powerful force in Mesoamerica. Their society was highly structured, deeply religious, and marked by incredible agricultural innovation like the chinampas. Their downfall came with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in 1519.
