Jacopo Comin, known as Tintoretto, was a towering figure of the Venetian High Renaissance, active between roughly 1530 and 1594. He earned his place among history’s most influential figures, ranking #894 on the MIT Pantheon index, through his dramatic and energetic painting style that heavily influenced later Baroque artists. Working rapidly and often with high contrast lighting, his prolific output spanned religious scenes, mythology, and portraiture, securing his legacy as one of the great masters of 16th-century Italian art.
